Some Postcards from John
Foreword
Having read all of the books previously written by my good friend,
the author Dr Timothy Cross, I was delighted with his request to
write a foreword to his latest work: Some
Postcards from John.
Like the author, I too collect postcards and have done so over fifty
years in travelling and ministry. My collection of over two-thousand
postcards has been sent home to family and friends from the Pacific,
Australasia, the USA and many different locations in Europe. All the
recipients were instructed, "Please keep these postcards for
me". However sending postcards has one setback. That is the lack
of space to convey any real news or descriptions, only just a brief
comment and a greeting.
How I envy those with minuscule writing.
Yet this has not been a problem for Dr Cross in his work on the
"Postcards" of the 2nd and 3rd Epistles of John. His
postcards of John are packed with good solid news. What a mine of
information and exposition, he by the insight of the Holy Spirit has
conveyed to his readers.
The composition and content of these postcards have blessed,
encouraged and challenged me as I have read them. My prayer is that
this too will be your experience. The teaching contained in these
"spiritual" postcards from John will remind the readers for
the need to earnestly contend for
the faith once delivered to the saints. To recognise and
reject false leaders and their teachings, from both within and
without the Christian Church.
On a personal note, I like two things in particular in Dr Cross's
latest book.
Firstly the inclusion of a set of questions at the end of each
chapter. I found them thoughtful and stimulating.
Secondly I like the author's use of alliteration. It helps the reader
remember more clearly the truth being taught.
I heartily commend these "Postcards" to you. May you be as
blessed reading them as I was.
